Paladins: Champions of the Realm is an online first-person shooter game that was launched by Hi-Rez Studios in 2018. The game has gained massive fan following and has registered over 25+ million players in just over 2 years of its inception. The game is set on a science-fictional fantasy world called “Dungeonpunk,” and boasts of over 48 different characters, and also a huge collection of future-tech weapons.
Placing bets on Paladins, as analogous to any other type of e-sport or mainstream sports betting involves predicting the outcome of several smaller portions of the game or the entire result of the game before the match. In paladins, punters can bet using real-money, skins, gold, or any other in-game related resources.
Over its short span of existence, Paladins has managed to “out-perform” some of the preceding games of the same genre of PC gaming. The game already boats of a strong professional e-sports scene with teams from all over the globe.
Paladins has several iterations of tournaments that are organized globally and the top teams from various regions compete for the ultimate prize. Apart from that there are several regional tournaments that the community hosts as well.
However, three of the top-tier leagues in Paladins are – The Paladins Premier League, The Paladins Console League, and The Paladins Minor League. Professional teams as well as the best individual Paladins players from around the world participate in these tournaments throughout the year.
These leagues are played throughout the year and the top teams automatically qualify to participate in two of the major Paladins Competitions – The HRX invitational, and The Paladins World Championship.
The Paladins World Championship tournament carries a massive prize pool of $300,000 and features the top 8 ranked teams from around the world. This tournament in specific is one of the biggest events in the e-sports calendar, and, hence, is a kill zone for punters and bookmakers to make some serious money by betting on several strategic matches throughout the competition.
Some of the upcoming Paladins tournaments also include Flex, and Brasileirão de Paladins.
The increasing popularity of Paladins in the e-sports scene contributes to the appealing nature of making real money through betting. Also, as compared to other e-sports games, Paladins is just in its initial phase, which makes its steep growth even more significant, and the prospect of earning through Paladins wager even more lucrative.
Here are some of the common Paladins betting markets a punter can place his bet on.
The simplest form of betting on Paladins is the Match Winner bet. In this form of betting market, you simply put your money on the team you think will win the game. However, placing your bet on the clear favourites does not enhance your winning amount significantly as the odds are usually low.
Handicap betting is a slight modification of the conventional Match Winner betting market. The bookie improves the winning odds of the “underdogs” before the game. This helps punters to place their bet on the underdogs as well.
As the name suggests, this type of betting markets is where the punters predict the winner of the entire tournament before the commencement of the actual tournament.
Specials betting market involves betting on a multitude of smaller in-game aspects such as first-blood, number of kills, number of round wins, final scores etc. As opposed to other types of strategic betting markets, specials bets depend majorly on individual luck.
Since Paladins is relatively a new game to the market, there is limited information on how placing bets on Paladins actually work. However, as similar to any other types of its contemporary e-sports games, punters can bet using real money or cryptocurrencies as well. Some of the most basic types of e-sports betting are as follows:
Money-line bet is a straightforward type of placing bets on e-sports. The two teams are assigned with certain odds that represent their winning chances. Placing a bet on the favorite team ensures a safe bet, but since the favoured team has a lower odd, it does not necessarily give you a good return even if you win.
Outright bet is a type of betting where the punter predicts the outcome of the entire League or Tournament as opposed to making bets game-by-game. This type of betting provides the punters with a slight extra room for making minor strategic errors as the teams get enough time to recover their form during the tournament.
Within the special bet, there are a lot of smaller e-sports bettings such as:
- First-map betting: this form of special bets is where punters bet on which team will win the first map.
- First kill/ First blood: in this type of special betting a punter can bet on which team (or an individual) will take the first kill (draw the first blood) on a particular map.
- Over/ Under: this type of special betting is where a bookie specifies certain time duration of the map or the match itself, and the punter has to bet on where the map will last over or under the given time.
- Odd / Even bets: this is where the punters make bets based on either an odd or even number outcome. This bet can be placed on various scenarios such as number of kills, number of maps played, number of wins, etc.
Paladins trading refer to the process of exchanging or selling skins, weapons or any other in-game items between the players. Some of the biggest names (games) in the e-sports scene such as Dota 2 and CS:GO allow its player to exchange/ trade skins within the game. However, this feature is currently not supported in Paladins. Players cannot trade or sell their champion skins amongst themselves (at least as of present) as it is still a relatively new game.
The feature may, however, be added in the future after the game makes significant profit margin.
