Competitive play
Super Smash Bros. Ultimate is one of the oldest esports titles in the world. Tournaments usually consist of professional gamers competing against each other. Competitions began in early 2002 with multiple tournaments in the world. Many tournaments are community driven, where communities organise unofficial events to play and decide who’s the best smasher. With huge success in the esports world, many current esports players have been recruited by major esports organisations.
Just like with any game, top players select the characters that they are comfortable playing with. Each character has a set of individual skills and attacks. Each character has a unique style of playing. Competitive players usually have a favourite style and choose characters to fit it. Some pro players prefer to play offensively there as others are defensive and prefer to drag the game to the end.
